Summer project 2010

For university we had to do a summer project on 'Unexplained Phenomina'. Tonight I have decided that I put too much time and effort into this project for it to only been seen by a few tutors. It's 11 slides long and about 2000 words so I understand if you don't read it all, but make sure you keep going until you get to my 'ghost' photograph on slide 10.

I've found a few mistakes in it tonight (so annoying) and it gets cheesy as hell towards the end but hey, I'm still proud of it!

(Click on images to make them bigger, so you can read them)

Uni work

I usually don't put any of my college/ uni work up online until it's handed in, although it's Saturday night, I'm in by myself and I'm bored. So here are 2 of my Photography 3A photos. The project, as you may guess, is chairs.

I'm not 100% sure if this is the final edit of these photos, although I am really happy with how they look. Hopefully I'll get at least another one shoot in next week, so I'll get more on here soon!

Feedback please!

Researching

I've spent the past week or so coming up with an idea for my Photography 3A class and writing a proposal. I finally came up with the idea to continue a series I started in HND2 Documentary class of chairs. To give a bit more depth to this project I am shooting empty chairs to demonstrate the isolation and solitary feel an inanimate object can project.

Here are a couple of images from my chair series;

Their are a select few photographers who seem to influence a lot of my work, so naturally I'm using them as references for this project.

They are Francesca Woodman;

And Sarah Moon;

I also have a great love of the work of the directors Francis Ford Coppola and his daughter Sofia Coppola. The movies by them which particularly inspire me are...

'The Outsiders' by Francis Ford Coppola;

'Rumble Fish' by Francis Ford Coppola;

'The Virgin Suicides' by Sofia Coppola (I don't understand anyone who says they don't love this movie, if not for the story at least for the colours and the lighting.);

And fianlly 'Lick The Star' by Sofia Coppola;

Youtube the movie trailers if you haven't seen any of them. The Outsiders and Rumble Fish have been two of my favourite films for as long as I can remember, and they have become so much a part of me that I'm sure I can use them as influences for anything that I do.

Now that I've got my 2000 word proposal handed in I can start the fun stuff - planning the shoots, doing recces of locations and actually doing the shoots!

Illamasqua "Art of Darkness' Launch images.

I have so many images from the night but here are some of my favourites.

And here are some that I love because I love the people in them :)  (cheesy I know)

Busy busy

I'm already finding it hard to get the time to write in this. Must make sure I set time aside every week, just want to keep on top of it all!

The Illamasqua night was a roaring success! A great turn out, everyone was dressed up and having an amazing time. It was really the first event I'd photographed so I had to quickly get used to the idea that I couldn't change the background, move people about easily and, well, I couldn't just remove posters from the wall if they were distracting or anything. I am happy with my shots though. Fiona (manager of Glasgow Illamasqua) is coming to mine tomorrow so that we can decide together which ones to sent to their Head Office, which ones she wants for the Glasgow branch website and FB page and which ones she wants for personal use. Not going to put any up on here until I've sorted all that with her, but keep checking because they will be up in the near future!

My good friend Chloe is holding a 'Rumble in the Jumble' night on Wednesday night in the Flying Duck so I'm going to pop along with my camera to get more experiance of photographing events. Come along to it! http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=135047879874871&ref=mf

University work has officially started.

Photography 3A - basically I've to "plan and develop a self directed brief on an editorial/ advertising photographic approach". So, I'm loving the brief but my brain is frazzeled with all the ideas I keep having. This morning I've sat and jotted down things that are going round in my head so I can make some sort of sence out of them. The direction I'm most interested in going towards is fashion with a fantasy feel towards them. Haven't quite decided on whether it's going to be soft pastels with an ethereal mood, or over the top Cirque du Soleil with experimental lighting and a crazy colour palet.

As I don't have any images I can show you from the Illamasqua night here are three of my friend Claire that I shot for Social class in HND2. She's so pretty :)

Today I am doing research for Photography 3A along with noting down any idea I have for it. No matter how crazy or stupid it seems. Tomorrow and Sunday I'm working, sorting photos with Fiona Sunday night and then Monday I will download Maya and experiment with it.

Check back here on Monday, should have more photos to put up!
