Dogs

Anyone would think I'm dog crazy, but I'm not. I started shooting them and it's hard to stop.

I've not done anything with a lot of them for a long time, I've now put them up on my flickr.

Film Stills

Isn't this the most beautiful film still you have ever seen?

It's from The Virgin Suicides by Sofia Coppola.

One of my university projects is strongly influenced by film stills, especially from horror films. I know The Virgin Suicides isn't a horror but it's tragic and eerie and filled with voyeuristic undertones.

Other movies I'm looking at include such classics as Halloween:

 And Black Christmas:

I would like to thank the most creepy, spooky, gorgeous and (let's face it) could be psycho sisters in the world, my best friends Heather and Fiona. The McKay sisters know horror like no other.

Motivation

I've found it really hard to get 'in to' this year at uni. I've found it hard to get the motivation and insperation. I've spent a lot of time reading Berger and Sontag and stressing over writing, so today I decided to actually look at why I'm doing this course - that is photography.

I've look at my old workbooks from HND and last year, and I've looked at my photography books and images on the internet. This year it's been far too easy to forget about taking photographs and concentrate on writing about the methods and theories behind them.

(I've not even done anything with my 'Dog' series for ages!)

I don't really have any images of my own to show you from this year yet, what I have taken is sitting waiting to be edited, even looked at and developed in some cases.

What I will put up on here is images that are influencing my Photoworks project. I changed my proposal for this after handin, so I may loose 10% on my new proposal because technically it was a late handin (the one I did hand in on time was an awful idea. Me in the studio shooting self-portraits? I don't think so). I'm shooting the patterns nature creates.

Even typing that makes me smile. What I've realised more and more over my degree is that a huge amount of my work is influenced by nature and what I really love is going out to the countryside and shooting the most beautiful and natural things in the world. I don't think I look like a countryside lover, but I am.

Anyway.

Forgotten film.

I got a film scanned a while back and forgot about it. So here's some images from it...

Marilyn Monroe by Eve Arnold

So many people say it, but I do truly think that Marilyn Monroe was one of the most beautiful, sensual and elegant women ever. No body seemed to capture this quite like Magnum photographer Eve Arnold.

This really really makes me smile.

I've not posted on this in so long but this deserves a post of it's own!

It's a dogs life.

It's been a long time since I've posted anything on this. All the photos I've been taking recently have been either on my small Sony digital compact, or on film, and a lot have been of dogs.

I was staying in Uddingston for 2 weeks looking after my sisters house and cats while she was away sunning herself in Egypt. Uddingston is a dream come true for this series, everyone has dogs!

I'm going to make a flickr page for my 'It's a Dogs Life' series this afternoon, but for now I'll show you this little beauty...

This gorgous wee dog watched me run along Main Street to capture his image. I petted his head, took a couple photos and went on my way.

I'll do an update with my flickr dogs page very soon.

Final 3B Images.

I feel like I havent taken a photograph in ages. I took one for my 'Dogs Life' series yesterday so I will have that up on here very soon.

I realise that I haven't put up my final images for 3B on here yet, so here goes.

I haven't really looked at them for a couple of weeks, but I'm still really happy with them. Definately not the end of this project.

These 6, along with 3 other images from my 'Rannoch' project, will be shown at my End of Year exhibition in WASPs Factory. Opening night Thurs 2nd June 6.30pm - 9pm, exhibition runs until Fri 10th June.

Top image on this eflyer was taken by my wonderful boyfriend Ande Murdoch (blog).

It's a dogs life on Gordon St.

Such a cute dog.

I'm getting a new compact 35mm camera soon. I can't wait until it's delivered as it'll give me something light and easy to carry about Glasgow and shoot day to day things. It's also one of the coolest/ cutest cameras ever. Keep your eyes peeled, I'll put up photos of it as soon as it arrives!

Francesca Woodman by Chris Townsend

About 6 monts ago I ordered the Francesca Woodman book by Chris Townsend from WHSmith.co.uk only to be told they were out of stock. So I moved on to search the web only to find the book for an average of £70, which at the moment is too much for me. Basically I forgot about my search and took it out on loan from the Uni library a number of times.

A couple of nights ago I received an email from WHSmith saying my order had been dispached, then when I got home today my book had been delivered and it was sitting on my bed waiting for me.

"She constantly compares the fragility of her own body with the physical environment around her."

Woodman's work can still take my breath away.

10 Stop Filter

I love my 10 stop filter (aka welding glass). I would be happy shooting the sea and rivers using it for the rest of my life.

What an inspiration.

It's a dogs life up at Rannoch station.

These dogs were happy to sit and watch me walk by. Until I knelt down to take a 2nd photo, when they stood up and started barking and growling. Hence why the second photo isn't as good!

Got the week off uni next week, so lots and lots of editing will be getting done. Expect to see photos from Dumfries and Galloway and photos from Rannoch.

It's a dogs life down in Dumfries and Galloway.

I spent a couple of nights in Dumfries with my boyfriend (blog) this week. Our £19 a night room in the Travelodge was a perfect base to go and explore the beautiful countryside and seaside of Dumfries and Galloway. I got back a couple of hours ago and the only images I've edited so far are ones I took as part of my 'It's a Dogs Life' series.

This first dog has a pretty easy looking life. His house is about 5 meters from the beach and he looked very content sitting out in the sun watching the waves roll in and out.

This second dog is probably my favourite that I've shot so far. He was tied up outside Morrisons in Dumfries and he is the most beautiful wee thing. He looked a bit scared anytime someone walked past, but I stayed back and spoke to him and he seemed to calm down a bit. He's only got one eye and I really hope he's not had too hard a life. He is so beautiful that I'm going to put up all three photos that I shot of him.

I'll put more photos from my break on here and on Flickr soon.
